Team Management & Operation

The Lakeway Lakers swim team is operated by Lakeway Swim Team, Inc., a Texas nonprofit corporation, which is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for making and implementing all decisions, rules and responsibilities involved in operating the team for the benefit of the swimmers, their families and the community.

The Board is responsible for all business aspects of the team's existence and operation, including handling the team's league responsibilities, contracting with the City of Lakeway for use of the swim center, obtaining necessary insurance coverages, scheduling practices and meets, hiring and supervising coaches, obtaining and maintaining team equipment, bulk purchases of team gear for resale to swimmers and team supporters, operating the team website, collection and accounting for registration fees and other income sources, payment of team expenses (rent, league dues, insurance premiums, coaches salaries, equipment purchases and maintenance, uniform and gear purchases), and satisfying all reporting and filings requirements imposed by governmental bodies (City of Lakeway, Texas State Comptroller, U.S. Internal Revenue Service, etc.).

The Board's policy is that inquiries, discussions, complaints, and suggestions about all of the above matters relating to the operation and management of the Lakeway Lakers swim team should be directed to the Board (by email or other means of written communication) for its review, consideration, and response, because asking individual board members to deal with business matters relating to the team's management and operation by confrontation at the times and places designated as the team's practices and league meets would be inefficient, distracting, and discourteous to the swimmers and families participating in those activities.

Any parents, swimmers, or family members violating this Board policy will be warned, and a continued refusal to comply with this Board policy will constitute grounds for termination of team membership for that family's registered swimmer(s).

About the Lakeway Lakers

The Lakeway Lakers Summer Swim Team was founded in 2003 when the Lakeway Swim Center first opened. The Lakers are a nonprofit organization in the State of Texas and are federally recognized as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Our team is entirely volunteer-run and self-funded, with membership open to swimmers who meet the team’s eligibility requirements.

The Lakers provide a fun, supportive environment where swimmers can build confidence in the water, develop and refine their strokes, and enjoy the excitement of friendly competition. Our swimmers range in age from 5 through the early teen years and represent a wide range of experience levels—from first-time swimmers to seasoned summer league athletes.

Over the years, many Lakers swimmers have gone on to compete in USA Swimming, high school, and collegiate programs, with several advancing to Junior Nationals, Nationals, and even Olympic Trials.

At its core, the Lakers season is about great swimming, strong sportsmanship, and building lasting friendships within a fun neighborhood team environment.
