Group Descriptions
Swimmers are assigned to practice groups at the start of the season based on their age as of May 1st, 2026. Please note that group placements cannot be adjusted for scheduling conflicts or convenience.
5 - 6 Years Old
Our youngest swimmers focus on building foundational swimming skills. During the season, most will master freestyle and backstroke, with early exposure to breaststroke and butterfly. Since it takes time to perfect legal technique, these swimmers typically compete in just one or two events at meets. When ready, they can enter up to three individual events and one relay, but only in strokes they can legally perform.
7 - 8 Years Old
By this age, most swimmers have a strong foundation in freestyle and backstroke, and many are beginning to compete in breaststroke, butterfly, and the individual medley (IM). This group emphasizes stroke technique and efficiency through targeted drills. At meets, swimmers may enter up to three individual events and two relay events, but only in legally executed strokes.
9 - 10 Years Old
Swimmers in this age group have been introduced to all four competitive strokes and the IM. Training focuses on refining stroke mechanics and developing race strategies. By mid-season, most can legally swim all individual events, including the IM. At meets, swimmers can compete in up to three individual events and two relays.
11 & Older
Older swimmers generally have prior swim team experience and are proficient in all four strokes and the individual medley. Training includes stroke mechanics, flip turns, dives, racing techniques, and endurance-building sets. At meets, swimmers may compete in up to five individual events and two relays. With the exception of the 11-12 age group’s butterfly event (25 yards), all individual events are 50 yards.
